The Church was founded in 1836 by a group of African American men who sought to create a community worship space that offered protection and kindness to all who entered. Docents will guide you through more than 185 years of Buffalo history, sharing connections to the Underground Railroad, Progressive Movements, and Civil Rights movements.


Tours for the Michigan Street Baptist Church are booked through our partners at the Michigan Street African American Heritage Corridor Commission. You can book individual tours of the Church, or you can book a package tour to visit multiple anchors in the Corridor.
